The Galleries Retail Park in Washington officially opened in November 2008 following a significant £20 million regeneration project aimed at enhancing retail facilities and improving transport links in the Tyne and Wear area. The development included the construction of a new state-of-the-art bus terminal and the addition of 103,000 square feet of retail space, attracting major high street brands to the area.
In 2024, the centre celebrated its 50th anniversary since the opening of the original Galleries Shopping Centre in 1974, which was inaugurated by Princess Anne . The retail park has since become a central hub for shopping and leisure in Washington, offering a variety of stores and services to the local community.
