Washy Witness is a dedicated local history website focused on preserving and sharing the rich stories, events, and heritage of Washington, UK. Our goal is to provide accessible, well-researched information about the area’s past—covering everything from historic landmarks to important events and notable people.

The site is a community-driven project that draws heavily from trusted sources like Raggy Spelk and aims to keep Washington’s history alive for residents, students, and anyone interested in the town’s heritage.

Washy Witness is a community-run, independent website. It is not affiliated with the local council or any official body. It was created to give locals and history enthusiasts a simple and clear place to learn about Washington’s past in one place.

Most of the information on Washy Witness is sourced from Raggy Spelk, one of the most trusted and detailed archives of Washington history. We also refer to local archives, online records, and contributions from knowledgeable residents. Every effort is made to keep facts accurate and respectful to the real history of the area. 

Yes! If you have historical photos, stories, or facts about Washington that you'd like to share, you can submit them using the submission form on our website.

All submissions must meet our content guidelines:

• Must be relevant to the history of Washington, UK

• Images must be your own or free to use with credit
  
  

We review each submission before publishing and may contact you for clarification if needed.

If you notice something incorrect, missing, or outdated, please let us know. You can email us at washywitness@outlook.com with the page name, the issue, and what you believe is accurate. We’ll review it and make updates if needed. Keeping the site accurate is important to us.

Washy Witness uses Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. This collects limited technical data like IP address, device type, and pages visited. We do not collect names, emails, or personal details. For more, visit our Privacy Policy.

Currently, Washy Witness does not accept donations. However, if you'd like to support the project or suggest a way to help, feel free to contact us. We appreciate all encouragement and community support. 

The site is still growing. While we’ve covered many major topics, we’re always working to expand and include more. If something’s missing, it may just be in progress—or we may need help verifying it. Feel free to suggest topics by contacting us. 

At the moment, Washy Witness mainly covers the areas of Washington Village, Fatfield, Usworth, and Teal Farm. These are the sections we’ve researched and built pages for so far.

We plan to expand the site over time to include other parts of Washington such as Glebe, Oxclose, Barmston, Columbia, and more. If there's a particular area you’d like us to focus on next, feel free to let us know!
